Last year my father told me about a 1000 ute he had found in a farm shed. We went and looked at it and decided although rough, it was worth a call. Somehow though, I completely forgot about it until a few weeks ago. I called the guy who owned it and we ended up working out a price and with car trailer in tow, we went and retrieved it today.
It's an April 1976 model and although it's a little rough around the edges, it's actually in quite good nick and will make a great base to start from. After three years of not being started, it took a few minutes to get her going, but she went once she started picking fuel up. A crook slave cylinder meant it couldn't be driven, but it was satisfying to know I'd bought a runner. No immediate plans for it at the moment, but some ideas are formulating in the back of my mind and once Towrota is finished, I'll hopefully be able to start work on it. For the moment though, it'll have to sit on the farm.

Well, it seems that ambition may have overtaken reality. Getting closer to the end of the build for Towrota, I realised that I have neither the space/time/money to build another project. The idea for the 1000 was also pretty wild, so it would be quite expensive too. Having George and Towrota (and Daisy in reserve), is quite enough I think. So I advertised the 1000 and after lots of calls, I sold it to a young fellow who is going to restore it. Very happy it's going to a good new home. Now the trick will be to avoid the tempation to get something else to fill it's place!
